Throughout my college studies, I had the great fortune to attend numerous concerts of The United States Army Band. Their musicianship and virtuosity, both as individuals and as a homogenous unit of sound were then, and still remain, quite thrilling and awe-inspired.
When Tony Maiello asked me to compose a work for the band, I was honored and thrilled.
I chose to write a miniature scherzo, if you like – starting with a very simple musical phrase, that would then be exploited through different modes of development, while simultaneously showcasing the fabulous musicians of the band.
It is my hope that this modest work celebrate The United States Army Band and its long and cherished history of superior musical excellence.
